Community Building Circles

The goal of the workshop is to experience the struggle and joys of building true community as the group gathers for three days.  True community is a rare experience for most of us in today’s fragmented world.  Most groups have an experience of community during these workshops although some do not.  As Scott Peck, who developed the Community Building Circle (CBC) process as well as authored The Road Less Traveled and The Different Drum said:  “community neither comes naturally nor is it purchased cheaply.”  The CBC workshop provides a vehicle for learning attitudes and ways of communicating that can facilitate building and maintaining community in your life.

The workshop is a microcosm of life at large and is a perfect laboratory in which you may experiment with new ways of being together through trial and error.  Many participants learn in these three days how to improve relationships with self and others elsewhere in life.  As in ‘real’ life, benefits appear directly proportional to how much you are willing to put into the workshop and this is left entirely to each participant.  You will not be required to speak unless you are so inclined.  The facilitators will not confront you about anything, but you may internally confront yourself.  However commitment to remain present physically and emotionally for the duration of the workshop is essential for a fruitful group outcome.

People come to a CBC workshop for many reasons (some of which are unknown to the participants themselves!!).  A unifying theme is often the desire to overcome superficiality and “chaos” in daily life and to relate to others honestly, authentically and respectfully.

A community may be defined as a group of people who, regardless of the diversity of their background can transcend their differences to communicate effectively and openly with each other.  This is fully an experiential learning

process.  You will find the facilitation is different than you may have experience in other workshops.  The facilitators are safe guides that allow you to make discoveries.
